Every year since 1991, District 200 has sponsored “Love to Read Week” to promote literacy and the importance of reading as a lifelong activity to students. During a week in February near Valentine’s Day, volunteers from the community come into kindergarten, elementary and middle school classrooms to read a favorite book or excerpt with students and to share how they use reading in their daily lives. Participants may choose the day, time, school(s) and even grade level(s) they would like to visit. They may bring their own reading material or ask for suggestions from the teacher or the Woodstock Public Library.
Formal recruitment of reading volunteers begins in early January of each year, but anyone who is interested may contact the Community Services Department at any time for more information at (815) 337-5147.
