Congratulations to Dean Street Elementary School on receiving a Meemic Masterpieces Grant! The grant, from The Meemic Foundation for the Future of Education, is a K-12 grant and art contest which started as an idea for finding art to brighten up the halls at Meemic corporate headquarters.
Teachers were asked to nominate a few students from each classroom who demonstrated consistently excellent behavior. Those students then received three extra art days to work on artwork for the Meemic Masterpieces Grant, based on one of the following themes: Safety, Green Living, or Our School. Mrs. Katie Wagner, Dean Street art teacher, submitted 20 pieces of student artwork to the grant contest. From more than 2,000 entries, three rounds of judging narrowed it down to 50 winners. Dean Street had three winners: Maggie Adams, Mia Bengston and Anna Wickersheim.
Dean Street received $300 for each winning entry – $900 in total to use for the purchase of art supplies. The winning student artists each received an Amazon® HD Tablet and a Certificate of Appreciation. Their artwork will be professionally framed and put on permanent display at Meemic Insurance Company headquarters located in Auburn Hills, Michigan. An art gallery open house will be held at Meemic in early May to display all of the winners. The student artwork will also be featured on the Meemic website.
